Richard Xu
Richard Xu is a distinguished legal professional with nearly three decades of experience practicing law across international jurisdictions. Dual-qualified in both China and Canada, he has built a career bridging two legal systems and providing sophisticated legal solutions to individuals, businesses, and institutions engaged in domestic and cross-border matters.
Over the course of his career, Richard has represented a wide range of prominent international organizations and corporations, including Caterpillar, Haier e-Commerce, the U.S. Embassy and the U.S. Department of Commerce/Department of State, as well as many leading domestic enterprises. His professional experience also includes service within the judiciary, notably with the Beijing Second Intermediate People’s Court, reflecting his longstanding commitment to the administration of justice and the rule of law.
Richard’s legal education spans both civil law and common law traditions. He holds three law degrees from respected institutions in China, the United Kingdom, and Canada. He graduated cum laude from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University in Toronto, Ontario. Following his articles with the well-respected Canadian law firm Cox & Palmer, he commenced his legal career in Canada and has since earned a reputation as a trusted advisor known for practical, client-focused legal counsel.
Having served as legal counsel, general counsel, and independent practitioner, Richard brings extensive legal knowledge, strategic insight, and sound judgment to every matter he handles. His broad experience enables him to navigate complex legal issues efficiently while delivering effective and pragmatic solutions for his clients.
Richard is fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. His principal areas of practice include corporate and commercial law, intellectual property law, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, litigation and arbitration, alternative dispute resolution, and contract disputes. He also maintains active practices in family law, real estate transactions, and estate planning.
Outside of his legal practice, Richard enjoys golfing and is an avid snowboarder.
